June 2020 Project of The Month: Uncle Ike’s Capitol Hill
Uncle Ike's, the prominent pot shop here in Seattle, continues to expand with another location in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood. The new location sits at the main entry point to the neighborhood coming from I-5. The building itself has been completely remodeled so Uncle Ike's decided to go big and bold and celebrate the diversity of the neighborhood with this unique rooftop neon sign.
The project started well before the recent COVID-19 pandemic, but because pot shops are considered essential businesses, we were able to keep moving the project forward. Achieving the perfect blend of color was a result of meticulously selecting from a palette of 75 color options. The neon tubing is a mix of "classic" colored glass and standard clear glass with phosphor coatings. Carefully calculating unit lengths and the locations of color changes were critical to the sign's success.
Painting the lettering satin white gives the sign a more subdued look during the day, but provides maximum light reflection for the neon as the sun sets. It's almost like getting two signs in one!
We are very pleased with how this project turned out, that our employees were able to continue working during a 100-year, unprecedented pandemic, and keep our client's business moving forward as well.
